A Pivotal Budget for Alberta

Alberta’s fiscal year 2023–2024 (FY2024) budget, set for release on February 28, is a pivotal moment in the province’s fiscal history. Alberta’s economic prospects and public debt metrics are the envy of the provinces, and we think continued forecasts of strong surpluses are the most likely outcome of the coming budget. But we also see downside risk to its budget balances this year.
