Why you should get RV or trailer insurance
If your RV is motorized, civil liability insurance is legally required to drive it in Canada. However, you're not legally required to insure your RV or trailer if it's not motorized and you tow it behind your vehicle.
In either case, we offer different RV and trailer coverages to protect against certain damage and theft. For example, we can cover your costs if your camper is damaged in a fender bender or if water seeps into it during a storm.

FAQ
If your RV is motorized, you're legally required to have at least $50,000 in civil liability insurance to drive it on roads in Quebec. If you drive your vehicle out of the province or to the US, we recommend getting $2 million to be properly covered in case of an accident. This insurance covers you if you damage someone else's property in an at-fault accident.
If your RV or trailer is not motorized and you tow it behind your vehicle, you're not legally required to insure it. But insurance is strongly recommended if you want to be covered in the event of an accident.
It's important to think about how you're going to use your travel trailer before insuring it. If it stays parked at a campground, insurance is not required. However, as soon as you take it on the road, we recommend you take out at least civil liability insurance to protect against the unexpected.
If your travel trailer stays in the same place year-round, you could get home insurance coverage to protect your belongings inside of it.

No; your home insurance would cover your belongings in your RV or trailer.
For example, if belongings in your camper were damaged after a road accident, you would need to file a home insurance claim for them.
In the event of an accident or loss involving your RV or trailer, you can file a claim online, in the Desjardins Insurance Home-Auto app or by phone. We're here to help 24/7.
If you aren't going to use your motorhome for more than 60 consecutive days and are putting it in storage, you can let us know via Online Services. You might qualify for savings on your recreational vehicle insurance premium.
To store your motorized RV
- Log in to Online Services
- Click Vehicle
- Find the vehicle you want to store and click Edit
- Select Manage vehicle storage, then click Start
- Follow the same steps to modify the dates of an upcoming or current storage period.
You don't need to notify us when you put your travel trailer or tent trailer into storage for the winter. When calculating your premium, we take into account that you only use your recreational vehicle seasonally. To ensure your vehicle stays well protected year-round, we recommend that you don't cancel your policy for the winter. For example, if your policy includes protection against fire, theft and vandalism, your trailer will stay covered even if it's parked in a garage during the off-season.
